Crestfallen.

On a dark and stormy night
the wind roared
the rain poured
thunder rumbled
lightning flashed.
Water dashed
passed a Crestfallen
middle aged man
who was soaked
to the skin, tired
and worn out.

His body tormented
his mind riddled with
nightmarish visions
of death and
destruction on
the desolate
battlefields of
a brutal Iraq.

In his anguish he
took refuge from
the stormy night
and his nightmarish
visions in a copious
drain pipe, where
he laid his head
down and slept
the sleep of
the dead.

It was in that
copious drain pipe
he was swamped
by torrents of
gushing water.
Its where he expired.
Verdict was he suicided.

Hi Windsmoke,
Very sad life for this man, but very well written.

So sad, Windsmoke. Wartime PTSD. It hits hard.

Questions about the verdict, I would have thought! Fine write.

So sad a tale, but definitely a tale for today.
To me, it reads like a timely warning to stop, take stock, and change things.
A brilliant write, Windsmoke :)

So hard, to write or read. I can't bear to think a man's terrors were greater than death by drowining.

G' Day ANDREW & BEACH: Thanks for saying so its much appreciated :-).

G' Day MAGS: Absolutely sad indeed :-).

G' Day RIVER & THE ELEPHANTS CHILD: PTSD certainly is very nasty and sad, but can be managed with the right advice :-).

G' Day DAVE & JOANNE: PTSD makes you do strange things that are totally out of character :-).

G' Day YGRAINE: You could definitely be on to something the hardest part would be to get people to listen :-).

That's a marvellous piece of work. So sad, so evocative, so thought-provoking, yet so simple. Your way with words is admirable.
